August 11th - OBON It's OBON !! Basically a week long Japanese summer holiday, and all most people do is visit their families, drink ice cold beer, watch the fireworks, maybe go to the beach or just chill. So we went to see the family, and it was their first time to see Koo. Everyone fell in love with Koo, even baby Haruna. |
| But as soon as we had the formalities out of the way, Takeo and I got stuck in to a few cold beers. But as Koo was with us we decided to combine a walk in the forest with a few coldies. Luckily we found this nice log hut to sit in and quench our thirsts before heading into the unknown. | ![]() |

Even Koo enjoyed a quick snack in the log hut before the big stomp. |
| We had to stick to the path because there are so many snakes around at this time of year. Incidently, I have seen the famous "Mamushi" snake crawling around near our new house a few times recently......going to take my snake charming flute with me next time !! | ![]() |

We stopped in at a French Chateau on the way back. Its authentically built, and has really nice grounds. Luckily for us, they only kept the good French aspects (no grapes, smelly cheese or daft paintings) !! They served ice cold Pilsner on tap, and had Korean BBQs set up in the garden, and Koo was allowed to drink chilled mineral water for free ! I think the staff took a liking to him....... Anyway, we all had a really good time......... |
| We headed back down to Chiba on August 13th, and as we got near Narita we noticed a sign for "Yume Bokujo". It's a kind of Farm Theme Park place. Anyway, I found the archery stand. It was really cool, they had proper bows, and real arrows. They said if I could hit the yellow bullseye of the target they would give me a free iceream cone. | ![]() |
